HV to MV design authority | Grid connection & TSO interface | Engineering standards across the platform
The Opportunity
Every megawatt of compute needs a grid connection, a substation, and a distribution system that work the first time. As Head of Grid & Electrical Engineering, you are the technical lead for electrical design, grid connection, and high-voltage engineering across our platform — from the 400 kV transmission interface to the MV distribution feeding the data centre.
You set the standards for every site we build, own the technical interface with transmission operators, and act as the owner's engineering authority towards EPCs, suppliers, and certifiers.
This is hands-on engineering leadership. You start as the technical authority yourself and build the in-house function as the portfolio grows. You work alongside the Senior Project Managers in the field.
What You'll Own
- Electrical Concept & Engineering
- Own the electrical design from the HV connection point to the MV boards: concept, redundancy philosophy, phased build-out
- Own layouts, single-line diagrams, load-flow and protection studies; validate third-party studies
- Build reusable design standards and templates that carry across sites and phases
- Act as the owner's technical interface to the transmission operator: connection conditions, technical annexes, studies, protection, metering — together with the local Project Managers
- Specifications, Tenders & Evaluation
- Write technical specifications, scopes of work, and tender documents for cables, substation, switchgear, transformers, and MV distribution
- Lead the technical evaluation of EPC and supplier proposals: conformity, design margins, deviations
- Design Review, FAT & Owner's Engineer
- Review and approve contractor and supplier designs; close RFIs and technical clarifications
- Define, witness, and approve FATs for transformers, switchgear, and protection systems
- Steer the Owner's Engineer where one is engaged, and hold external engineering to your standard
- Construction, Commissioning & Handover
- Oversee electrical works on site for conformity with design, specification, and standards
- Act as technical lead for SAT, protection testing, grid-conformity tests, and the energisation sequence
- Own the handover to operations: as-builts, protection settings, O&M requirements, training
- Building the Engineering Function
- Define how engineering is done at Brinell Compute: standards, review gates, sign-off authority, documentation
- Decide what is built in-house and what is bought, and scale the function with the portfolio
- Build and lead the engineering team as volume justifies it
Who We're Looking For (A Profile)*
Required
- Fluent English
- 5+ years designing and delivering HV/MV grid connections, substations, or utility-scale generation and storage plants, several of them at 110 kV and above; 220–400 kV a strong plus
- Owned the technical TSO/DSO interface: connection studies, grid-code compliance, certification
- Depth in protection, earthing and lightning protection, transformer and switchgear specification
- Wrote specifications and tenders and evaluated EPC and supplier proposals from the owner's side
- FAT/SAT and commissioning experience; led engineers or steered an Owner's Engineer
- Executive presence towards TSOs, OEMs, certifiers, and lenders' advisors
